Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science
The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science offers courses and programs leading to a Bachelor of Science in Statistics, a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science, a minor in Statistics, and a Master of Science in Statistical Computing with tracks in Data Mining and Actuarial Science. The undergraduate programs in statistics and actuarial science are designed to serve
- students who desire to pursue careers in statistics or actuarial science after having completed a baccalaureate degree;
- students who desire to continue their education in graduate or professional schools; and
- students who use statistics or actuarial science as tools in their specialty areas.
In order to serve such a wide variety of students, the courses and programs in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science have been developed along several lines. There are the usual service courses in elementary statistics along with strong programs in the upper division in statistical methods, statistical theory, statistical computing, and actuarial science. A limited number of assistantships are available for qualified graduate and undergraduate students.
