College of Medicine
The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine was established in 2006 by the Florida Legislature and the Florida Board of Governors to increase opportunities for medical education in Florida, address the nationwide growing shortage of physicians, and provide economic benefits to Central Florida and the State. In Fall 2009, the College of Medicine will welcome its first Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) students. Details on the application process for the UCF M.D. program are available on the College of Medicine web site (http://www.med.ucf.edu/).
The UCF College of Medicine is building an academic program with an integrated approach to medical education, state-of-the-art technical capabilities, and focused biomedical research. The college will be located at the UCF Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona, a state-of-the-art complex for medical education, health sciences education, and biomedical research. The 50-acre UCF Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona is located about 25 miles south of the Orlando campus.
The UCF M.D. program prepares students for careers in every discipline of medicine and allows each student to focus on an individualized area of study or research. The M.D. program learning experience at the University of Central Florida is a unique and exciting blend of state-of-the-art technology, clinical and laboratory experiences, research, facilitator-directed small group sessions, and interactive didactic lectures.
In addition to the new M.D. program, the College of Medicine offers a broad range of educational programs in the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences including undergraduate degrees in Molecular Biology and Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Medical Laboratory Sciences, master’s degrees in Molecular Biology and Microbiology, and Biotechnology, and an interdisciplinary doctor of philosophy degree in Biomedical Sciences.
